"Love" to see the Spruce Grove Saints "Wrestle" the monkey off their backs

The Spruce Grove Saints highlight pack found HERE. It is what I am reliant on as the October 30 game is one of a handful games I am unavailable to dedicate three hours to watch.

Going into the game the Saints needed to continue tinkering with a lineup that had lost six straight. The team picked up Jackson Arango on defense, releasing recently acquired Jeppe Bertram. The Club also split up their opening day opening line of Alexy Lachaine, Felix Haibock and Junior Podein into three different lines. Owen Leckelt, who had played every game this season, is listed as injured adding to the shake and bake of the lines.

Podein and Noah Taylor were paired together, both players with proverbial monkeys on their back as the scoresheet has been eluding them. Pictured is Taylor when he scored his first goal of the season removing the monkey. Podein sent his monkey to Timbucktoo as he netted four (4!) goals.

Alexander Levshyn earned his first victory since coming to the Saints. Christmas in October for him being gifted a 4-goal on route to a 7-3 win.

Fun fact, when I started following the Alberta teams in the BCHL back in the 20-midteens in the AJHL, the Pizza 73 promo was if the home team won everyone in attendance won a small pizza.

Those old AJHL is how I met the founder of Love Pro Wrestling and that's where I was last night. 


Top picture is from the mini-battle royal where Nick "the model" Shostastyk is handling Rich King and Marz the Specialist in a moment that prompted a "make them kiss" chant from the crowd.

Bottom picture is WWE ID Champion  "Ladybird" Monica Monroe visiting Edmonton for the first time facing off against Millwoods born Gigi Rey. In Booker T's "Reality of Wrestling" promotion these two tag together as the "Money Birds".

As for Love Pro Wrestling they are involved in an event I am extremely looking forward to.

First Spruce Grove Saints game as a season ticket holder. Weird cheering for them ( here is why)  So excited for this season, actually attending an exhibition game. Coming from over a decade in Sherwood Park I absolutely love how bright Thompson Family Arena is! Impressed by both goaltenders, interested by the size difference between Colten Scott (listed at 5'11") and Joseph Quintilio (listed at 6'4"). Got a lot of Kohyn Pipke and Cole Bent as a defensive pairing. Both are listed under 6 feet, neither ever looked overmatched. Pipke caught a lot of my attention as he looked comfortable playing physical in all three zones. Big 6'7" Blair Erickson struggled the first half of the game seemingly always a second behind. The young man caught up to the game in the second half.  Nikolas Salo (he is from Singapore, the Tommy you are thinking off is from Sweden) was burned badly on Blackfalds' second goal but otherwise didn't look like someone getting their feet...

September Walks to Consider: Sherwood Park Terry Fox and Celiac Edmonton

  YES, that is me in the mascot suit. NO, this article will not be asking you to pledge or donate. This is the sharing of good times had volunteering and/or participating in these events. The Sherwood Park Terry Fox Run at Broadmoor Lake Park and the Celiac Edmonton Ride Walk Run held at Rundle Park  are events, not infomercials, actual fun events. The story behind the mascot, whether my boss at the Sherwood Park Crusaders was Spencer Love (currently the founder of Love Pro Wrestling), Adam Sergerie (currently a pro scout for the Vancouver Canucks) or Adam Girard (currently with the Cru), the players were always a part of this day held just beyond their home rink the Sherwood Park Arena. The Victoria Grizzlies are no longer undefeated. The Spruce Grove Saints 5-games losing streak is over!

Brett Barnes, as he does, takes a minor penalty but is saved by the embellishment of the takedown also being called. The extra room on the ice was exactly what rookie Lucas Achim needed to take the puck from the boards to the middle and then into the back of the net! Down 2-1, now with some momentum, Alexy Lachaine takes an offensive zone penalty with a minute'ish remaining in the opening period. This paragraph actually neatly sums up the Saints season thus far. Then the second period turns into one of the Saints most dominant periods of hockey all season by outshooting Victoria 14-5 and outscoring the Grizzlies 2-0. Looking back, the only other period that was more dominant was the second period of the home opener in which they outscored Sherwood 2-0 and outshot the Crusaders 17-5. 8:12 into the final frame, the Grizzlies carrying the play, Saints rookie Owen Cronan skates into a Grizzlies player high stick.
