Second five game losing streak unlocked. Trip to the bottom of the Division booked.
Changes; Noah Taylor out, Gavin McNeil rides shotgun with Owen Leckelt and Scott Sandilands. Lucas Cilan out, Richard Krnac centers Owen Cronan and Max Finley. This bumps Cash Lanigan up to joining Junior Podein and Lucas Achim. On defense Jeppe Bertram sits so Micheal Zuyev draws back in. A bit of a surprise , Alexander Levshyn gets the net on back-to-back nights. Okay boys, lets not lose our 5th in a row!
Once again the game starts with the Saints hemmed into their own zone for the opening minute of the period. Trail would register a goal on two shots.
Early candidate, like three minutes in, for save of the game is Levshyn making an in-tight breakaway save after a turnover by Cole Bent. Mr Bent had a rough opening frame.
On separate shifts, Lanigan-Podein-Achim responsible for first two Saints shots.
Opening minute of the second period was almost a carbon copy of how the game started with Trail dominant but Levshyn stood tall.
Captain Lachaine was around the scrum that became the original four-on-four. Lachaine made himself the center of the next scrum with a late jab at a rebound earning himself a coincidental penalty. It feels like sometimes he forgets he's slotted as a top six player not a bottom six energy player.
On the ensuing faceoff, Patrick Woods carries the puck from center, dipsy doodles his defender and ties the game for Spruce Grove. Prettiest non-Haibock goal thus far this season.
Speaking of Haibock, the first powerplay of the game was a twenty second 4-on-3 situation. Haibock did not require the extra room as he sniped a top shelf goal to give the Saints the lead.
Haibock also committed the Saints first penalty of the game that gave Trail a powerplay. Levshyn made three top notch saves which all resulted in failed clearing attempts. You cannot give any team four consecutive opportunities, tie game.
Max Finley with an offensive zone penalty. One of those penalties that you sigh at because yes it was a trip but no that's not really why the Trail player fell. The Smoke Eaters powerplay would stay perfect and they retake the lead 3-2.
Make no mistake, Levshyn has played well enough in net to earn a first star nomination BUT!
Trail's fourth goal, a dump in from center in which the dumper was already turned around to go to the bench when his teammates started celebrating, just cannot happen.
Late powerplay unsuccessful. Mid-powerplay Levshyn pulled. Empty net goal.
