Oh for Bucks Sake, the Spruce Grove Saints lose again

The Spruce Grove Saints, after starting the season with two wins, have been struggling this season. Heading into last weekends games the Club shuffled deck in net by acquiring goaltender Alexander Levshyn from the WHL Prince George Cougars. Heading into this weekends threesome of games, the Saints added another former Cougar in defenseman Kaeson Fisher. Fisher drew into the lineup at the expense of Micheal Zuyev. Fisher and Levshyn spent the entire first minute of the game together as the Cranbrook Bucks collected five (5!) shots.

The Saints had the first powerplay of the game. Patrick Woods was elevated to powerplay one and was charged with an intentional offside. Defenseman Brett Barnes with the best scoring opportunity but he promptly "had" to take a penalty to break up a Bucks breakout with eleven seconds to go in the man advantage.

Woods was in Junior Podein's spot on a line with Alexy Lachaine and Felix Haibock. Woods was setup by Haibock for a good scoring opportunity which Haibock would knock in the rebound to open the scoring. The young man showed well in this new opportunity for him.

With 24 seconds remaining in the first period Richard Krnac gets blindsided. Play was reviewed and decided it was just a two minute minor. I disagree, it was dirty. In the second period Krnac seemed to have taken Lucas Cilan's spot on a line with Cash Lanigan and Max Finley. Arguably the best Saints line of the period. Lanigan was hitting everyone and Krnac was everywhere.

Recent Edmonton Oil Kings cut Kaslo Ferner picks the corner with 5:46 remaining to end the shutout bid on the 27th shot of the game. Moments later Levshyn made his best save of the game.

Jacob Hamel entered the night on a 5-game point streak and played a very physical game. On the opening shift of overtime, Lachaine gets beat by the Bucks player despite his best efforts. Hamel is too far up the ice in the 3-on-3 situation to help out his teammate, game over.

Next up is Trail on Saturday night. Spruce Grove will be trying to avoid their second 5-game losing streak of the season.
